Jouyssance examines the cycles of life as seen through the eyes of a host
of favorite Medieval and Renaissance composers. Josquin’s monumental Ave Maria/Pater noster, written as his own epitaph, Tomkins’ When David
Heard, and Dufay’s plea for mercy on his own death, Ave regina coelorum,
highlight this stirring program. Bringing it to a joyous conclusion will be
music celebrating resurrection by Byrd and Victoria.

Join us for an evening of Twelfth Night storytelling, as we bring a sixteenth-century
Aztec Christmas tale to life with drama and Spanish music from the Old and
New Worlds.
Jouyssance takes Fray Bernardino de Sahagun’s historic adaptation of the Nativity
story for the Aztecs, and blends it with trappings of the Mexican pastorela tradition.
With its usual eye toward fun and scholarship, Jouyssance will interweave music by
Mexican and European masters, including Fernandes, Padilla, Guerrero, Morales,
and Victoria.

Jouyssance is pleased to participate in a special day of celebration
at St Mary of the Angels!
St. Mary’s, where we rehearse and where we recently recorded our soon-to-be-released CD of Christmas music, will be playing host to their bishop, the Rt. Rev'd Daren K. Williams. At 4:15, the bishop will present a concert of organ works, including works by J. S. Bach, Langlais, Vierne, and Gerald Near. Following the organ programme, St. Mary’s will hold a Solemn Evensong and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, with music provided by Jouyssance. We’ll be performing works by Byrd, Palestrina, Lasso, and Dunstable, along with Christopher Tye’s Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis.
Our performance time will be determined by the bishop’s schedule, but is expected to be around 5 pm.
The concert is free, although St. Mary’s will accept donations to support ongoing restoration of the organ. For more information, please contact Fr. Kelley at 323-660-2700.
